TIFA AND MODERN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS THAT ARE SIMILAR (INFORMATICS EXAM)
TIFA AND MODERN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS THAT ARE SIMILAR
At school, we often learn about Indonesian culture, including traditional musical instruments.
One instrument that really caught my attention is the tifa. Tifa is a traditional instrument from Papua made of wood and animal skin, usually played by hand or with special sticks to produce sound. Tifa is often used in traditional ceremonies, dances, or music performances. Its sound is unique and can be very energetic and entertaining.
Tifa comes in different shapes depending on the region. Some are long and slim, while others are short and large. The way it is played also varies. Some are struck only on the top, while others are hit on the sides to produce different sounds. Besides being used to accompany dances, tifa was also used as a communication tool in the past. Papuan people used tifa to send messages from one village to another.
Interestingly, I found that tifa is similar to some modern musical instruments, especially drums or congas. Drums in bands or modern music are also struck to create rhythmic sounds, just like tifa. The difference is that modern drums are usually made of metal or plastic and played with drumsticks, while tifa is made of wood and animal skin, and often played with hands. Congas are also similar because they are cylindrical and played by striking the top, and they can produce different tones depending on how you hit them.
Learning about tifa made me appreciate Papua culture more. I realized that traditional instruments are just as cool as modern instruments. In facts, tifa can make people move to the rhythm, just like drums or congas in modern music. I imagined if a modern band combined tifa with drums, the sound would be unique and different from ordinary music.
Besides that, I also learned about rhythm and creativity. Playing tifa isn't just about hitting the instrument-it's also about matching the tempo with friends or the accompanying music. Just like a drummer in a modern band, a tifa player must keep a consistent rhythm so the music sounds good and harmonious. If the rhythm is of or overlapping, the music can sound messy. From this, i learned the importance of teamwork, focus, and precision, both in traditional and modern music.
At school, the teacher also showed videos of tifa performances and modern bands. I noticed that many music concepts are the same, like repeating rhythms, fast and slow tempos, and sound variations to enhance the music. Some modern musician even take inspiration from tifa to create new songs with a touch of Papuan tradition. This made me realize that traditional culture is still relevant and can blend with modern music.
In conclusion, tifa is a unique and interesting traditional instrument from Papua. It is similar to drums or congas in modern music because both are struck to create rhythm. Learning about tifa not only teaches me about Papuan culture but also about rhythm, creativity, and teamwork. I hope that one day I can try playing tifa and maybe combine it with modern instruments to create fun and unique music.
